The dance symbolises strength, prosperity, and good fortune and is performed on auspicious occasions and wards off evil spirits and welcomes good fortune. Led by decades of experience, our Chinese Dragon Dance workshop remains the original and the best.

Our Chinese Dragon Dance for schools is a one-of-a-kind experience that combines three traditional Chinese Dance forms into a single, immersive session. Children don’t just take part in a dragon parade. They also become part of a full performance featuring the Chinese Dragon Dance, Fan Dance, and Umbrella Dance, each bringing rhythm, coordination, and creativity together.
What makes our workshop unique is how these elements work in harmony. During each session, 30 children take part: ten perform under the flowing dragon, ten use elegant fans, and ten dance with colourful umbrellas. By bringing all three together, they create a vibrant, synchronised display that’s visually stunning and deeply collaborative. It’s a style that originated with us at Primary Workshops for Schools and has since inspired others across the UK!
The importance of the Chinese Dragon Dance
Our workshop brings the tradition of the Dragon Dance to life, symbolising strength, unity, and good fortune while also developing important skills such as teamwork, coordination, and timing. The combination of fans, umbrellas, and dragon movements challenges pupils to listen, cooperate, and move as one, helping build focus and group awareness.
Who is it for?
We can cater for up to 8 sessions of 30 children per day, each focusing on the Chinese Dragon Dance with authentic props.
Conclude the day with a once-in-a-lifetime performance by the children, showcasing what they’ve learned. Whilst available year-round, our Chinese Dragon Dance for schools is extremely popular during Chinese New Year, and we would recommend booking early to avoid disappointment!

During a typical day-long workshop, Primary Workshops for Schools can deliver 6 sessions, stretching to 8 if necessary and each session can include up to 30 children and the day can be concluded with an end-of-day performance from the children.
